The Old Regime has 4 slabs (5% to 30%) with ₹50,000 standard deduction (General) / ₹3L/₹5L (Seniors), plus full Chapter VI-A deductions (80C, 80D, HRA, etc.). Rebate u/s 87A makes tax nil up to ₹12L (New) / ₹5L (Old). Surcharge applies on taxable income >₹50L (Old: 10-37%, New: capped at 25%). 4% Health & Education Cess applies on tax + surcharge in both regimes.
